The 28-year old Spaniard was forced off after losing a toenail and further participation in training was too much of a strain for the defender. He continued the session in the gym. Caldirola had felt a niggle in his thigh: “It was merely a precautionary measure and both players will travel to Austria,” said Werder coach Viktor Skripnik, who gave the all clear immediately.
In better news, the head coach saw some players return to training. Claudio Pizarro, who trained individually in the Weser-Stadion on Monday and Tuesday, was able to participate in the session without any restrictions. Melvyn Lorenzen was also back in individual training with rehabilitation coach Jens Beulke after recovering from his accident that saw him hospitalized.
New Finnish recruit Niklas Moisander was on the training pitches for the first time since his move to Bremen, but completed a session away from the team. László Kleinheisler was also back after working indoors on Tuesday evening. Bargfrede, Johannsson and Eilers were all absent but were working on their recoveries in and around the stadium.
