The first of three training camps for SV Werder Bremen ends on Saturday when they face a Neuruppin select side VfB Lübeck. Viktor Skripnik had set the focus on improving athleticism and setting the foundations as the new season approaches. The SVW boss was very pleased with the conditions on site and the commitment his players displayed: "There is absolutely no reason to say anything negative at all."

"I'm thoroughly satisfied with the work the team has put in and with the developments here over the first few days. It was noticeable that the lads are improving with every training session. I'm furthermore pleased of course, that no additional players got injured. The players that are missing due to injury have continued to work on their comeback and their return to the team’s training sessions. They will further increase the quality level and the competition as they return together with our national team players, which is very important for us," explained the Werder coach.

Like last year, the Green-Whites were once again presented with top notch conditions in their team hotel "Resort Mark Brandenburg" and on their training pitch, normally used by MSV Neuruppin. Sporting director Frank Baumann agrees and discussed some details happening away from the pitch: "We had several changes in our squad, which isn't too unusual for a Bundesliga club. Piecing your squad together and how the team finds itself in this phase, are still extremely important factors," says Baumann. In the end a good mix of young and experienced players will be needed. "It's a constant process, especially during the transfer window."

Werder's newly formed squad thus achieved far more in Neuruppin than lay the foundations for the new season. Interpersonal relationships were also a key area. After their two friendly's on Saturday and a short stay in Bremen, the team will head out again on Thursday towards Zillertal. They will spend eight days there, with friendlies against 1860 München and Huddersfield Town FC on the schedule before they take part in the Dresden Cup.
