Up until today, it had predominantly been just diggers and tractors at the WeserStadion over the past few weeks. However, the Werder players all returned between 08:00 and 09:00 CEST on Friday morning. Pre-season training has officially begun; the players have met up and completed performance tests.
Beforehand manager Viktor Skripnik and sporting director Frank Baumann spoke to the team, who can hardly wait to get going. "We’ve had a long enough holiday. About two weeks ago I thought that it was time we got started again," said Clemens Fritz at the press conference on Friday morning.
Fritz and Co. want to get going and as quickly as possible: "We’re all highly motivated and excited to now start again," added Werder’s captain. The first public training session will take place on Sunday morning, before the Green-Whites travel to their pre-season training camp in Neuruppin in the afternoon.
It’s not only the players who are buzzing to hit the ground running but also manager Skripnik: "After the long summer break, I’m really looking forward to it. The batteries are recharged and the excitement for football is there. Now it begins!"
