SV Werder Bremen and Chinese first division side Liaoning FC have reached an agreement over the transfer of striker Anthony Ujah. Subject to a medical in China, the 25-year-old will leave the Green-Whites immediately. Sporting director Frank Baumann anounced the news on Tuesday. Details on the transfer fee will remain undisclosed. At the start of the year, Werder defender Assani Lukimya moved to the current 11th-placed side in the Chinese Super League.

“It was not actually our intention to sell Tony because he was set to play an important role in our plans for next season. But he told us a few days ago that he would like to accept the offer from China. In the end, we have come to a satisfactory solution for both parties so that we could agree to his request,” explained Frank Baumann.

"It was a very difficult decision for me because I’ve become very fond of the city, the club and, above all, the fans in the past year. That’s why a possible transfer didn’t come into question in winter. Now there is a new opportunity, which I can’t reject. I’m lucky that I could contribute to the happy ending of last season and wish SVW all the best," said Anthony Ujah.

Anthony Ujah joined Bremen from 1. FC Köln in summer 2015. The Nigerian international scored 11 goals in 32 Bundesliga games for the Green-Whites. He netted three times in five DFB Cup appearances for SV Werder Bremen.
