Philipp Bargfrede smiles mischievously. Finally, the 27-year-old is back on the pitch. He has been forced to sit out since January, due to further knee problems. But now he is back and he is struggling to disguise his anticipation. In an interview with WERDER.DE, he says that he is doing well. “Over the past couple of days, I have slowly been getting back into running training, and doing very simple things with the football”, explains Bargfrede.

His training plan consists of a little bit of coordination work and a little bit of passing practice. Bargfrede is getting back into things slowly. “First and foremost, it is great to finally be back on the training pitch, and not just in the gym.” The muscle tear and inflammation of his knee led to a long period of rehabilitation, with muscle building and individual training in the weights room.

Now Bargfrede once again has a target to aim for: “The start of the season is definitely my goal. I hope that I will be able to get involved with pre-season preparation. When exactly, is difficult to say. But obviously I want to get back to fitness quickly, and I would love to be able to run out against Bayern“, says the experienced midfielder.

Above all, Bargfrede does not want to rush anything after this difficult experience. “You have to sit tight for the first days and weeks. I am just happy that my knee is feeling good, and that I can run and work with the ball”, he admitted reluctantly. Nevertheless, his mission is clear: “I have to obviously do a few things for my fitness”. With this sentence, the mischievous smile returns to his face. He has a some work ahead of him, but Philipp Bargfrede is on his way back.
