Progress will only be made together! If Werder want to take the points from the game against Mainz, they know they will have to work hard as a strong, collective unit. Head coach Alexander Nouri has made this clear to his team, stating the need for togetherness and asserting “we cannot let ourselves be divided as a team.”

In his press conference on Thursday ahead of the clash with Mainz, Nouri discussed his day-to-day work and how the team can deal with their current difficult situation. “No one is pointing the finger at one another, but instead everyone takes on responsibility and we go over our mistakes internally and analyse them critically.” While the obvious frustrations at having taken no points from the last few outings is clear, Nouri restated the importance of “staying positive”.

The team embarked on a short training camp ahead of their next Bundesliga match, flying to Mainz on Thursday afternoon. “The state of mind is definitely a big factor in the current situation. We have to keep talking to each other and spend time as a collective,” continued Nouri. The squad appear to bonding more together, which Thomas Delaney sees as “very important” if the side are to make progress.

The midfielder also emphasised that much of what has been talked over will remain between the team rather than being made public. “The team can show what happens next on Saturday afternoon.”
