Werder’s midfield motor Zlatko Junuzovic returned to Bremen two days ago from international duty and was already back on the training ground on Thursday afternoon with the Green-Whites. FC Augsburg await the Bremen side in their first home game of the season. “There’s a lot of excitement before the first home game of the season especially after the long international break. Looking back on the end of last season and the way the fans supported us then, it’s no surprise we are looking forward to the first home game of the season at the Weser-Stadion,” said the Austrian.

The start of the season has been everything but positive both for Bremen and the 28-year-old personally. “We want to win our first game. We definitely have the quality and the atmosphere in the stadium will be great. The aim is obviously three points,” explained Junuzovic ahead of the game against FCA. We definitely have the quality and the atmosphere in the stadium will be great. The aim is obviously three points,” explained Junuzovic ahead of the game against FCA. The attacking midfielder thinks the home fans could be a key factor in the opening game at the Weser-Stadion: “The fans are always behind us. Only together can we get the win we need, so we really need their support on Sunday against Augsburg,” said Junuzovic who recently became a father.

While the Green-Whites got some match practice against Kickers Emden during the international break after the Bayern game, “Juno” was traveling to play for the Austria national team. The man with the highest number of assists for Werder last season played an hour of Austria’s 2-1 win over Georgia in their opening World Cup qualifier. This victory has given ‘Juno’ plenty of confidence going into the upcoming fixture. The team is also wants to go onto the pitch with a different attitude and body language after a bad start to the season. “We are going to have to make brave decisions on Sunday, our body language has to be better, more positive. We need to play with confidence, get into the game and create the chances we need to win,” said the 28-year-old ahead of the match against Augsburg.

Despite the fact that key players Claudio Pizarro, Max Kruse and Santiago Garcia are all unavailable due to injury, responsibility will not lie solely on Zlatko Junuzovic’s shoulders. “We win together and we lose together,” said head coach Viktor Skripnik. Junuzovic also emphasizes the importance of playing as a team. He said, “I am a part of the team and I’ll try to play at my best to keep the team morale high. I don’t decide anything alone; we discuss everything as a team. Every player has to take on responsibility, regardless of whether they are young or old. We have to act as a team. Everyone has to be optimistic and give it their best shot.”
