"It’s do or die time!” No nonsense talk from Werder chief executive Thomas Eichin. The emotional rollercoaster of the 3-2 defeat in Dortmund is in the past, now concentration is fixed firmly on the next game against FC Augsburg. The Green Whites play host to the Bavarian side at 15:30 CEST on Saturday in a relegation six-pointer. Manager Viktor Skripnik is keen not to focus on the opponent, however, and wants his side concentrate on their own strengths. "We can play football, we showed that in Dortmund. Above all, we have to concentrate on our own strengths," said the Werder coach, adding: "Experience is a very important factor in relegation battles – and that’s something we have!”

The footballing history that both Torsten Frings and Thomas Eichin share with FCA chief executive Stefan Reuter, why Augsburg taking the lead could statistically be a good thing for Werder and how the Green Whites have improved at set pieces in 2016 is all revealed below:

Did you know, that…

… manager Viktor Skripnik has been on the winning side every time he’s faced FC Augsburg in the Bundesliga?  The Ukrainian has sat in the dugout twice against Augsburg for Bremen, winning both times. Earlier this season Werder won 2-1, while Skripnik’s first outing against the Bavarians ended 3-2 to the Green Whites last season.

… Werder have drastically improved from set pieces?  Werder scored just five goals from set pieces during the first half of the season. So far in 2016 we have already managed 10 goals from dead ball scenarios – the most in the league!  Most recently against Dortmund on Saturday, Junuzovic assisted Werder’s equaliser from a corner. More impressively, the Green Whites scored 26 goals from set pieces in the 2015/16 season!

… if the guests take the lead, it doesn’t necessarily point to a Bremen defeat?
Weinzierl’s team have giving away 22 points so far this season from winning positions. Even with a 3-0 lead against Leverkusen was not enough to seal all three points, with the match ending 3-3. Only Darmstadt have a worse record, having thrown away 26 points from winning positions.

… the two sides' chief executives won a title together in 1984? Stefan Reuter and Thomas Eichin won the U16 European Championship together, while Frings also shares a footballing past with Reuter. Werder’s assistant manager played alongside Reuter at Borussia Dortmund between 2002 and 2004.

… Werder’s home form is slowly picking up? Werder have not lost at home in six matches (W1, D5).

… Werder have scored a whopping 22 goals in 2016? Pizarro, Ujah and Co. have actually scored more than both Bayern and BVB (20 goals). SVW have scored in 15 of the last 17 competitive matches.

… things haven’t so well for FCA against relegation rivals? In the seven matches so far against Frankfurt, Hoffenheim, Darmstadt and Werder Augsburg have just three points (D3, L4).
