Werder lose the semi-final of the DFB Cup 2-0 away to Bayern. In a sold out Allianz Arena, Werder were in the game for long spells but it was decided by Müller's brace in the end.
Line-up and formation: As he said he would, Skripnik put out his best available side. There were two changes to the side that beat Wolfsburg 3-2 at the weekend. Papy Djilobodji and Janek Sternberg came into the side for Santiago Garcia and Alex Galvez, who were both on the bench. Skripnik continued with his previously-successful 4-1-4-1 formation, led by former Bayern player Claudio Pizarro.
6' Werder have started the game well. Sambou Yatabare hits Bayern on the counter, moving forward with pace, but he tries to find Junuzovic in space and his pass didn't make it.
10' First chance of the game for Bayern. Juan Bernat is on the edge of the box, recieves the pass, but his effort goes miles over the bar.
30' After Werder held strong in defence without creating any real chances, Bayern take advantage of a lapse in concentration. Clemens Fritz loses Müller in the box and he heads into the corner. Wiedwald got a touch but couldn't keep it out. 1-0 to Bayern.
40' Big chance for Werder. Neuer clears the ball from defence but it falls straight to Sambou Yatabare. He tries to lob Manuel Neuer but the Bayern goalie is back in time.
45' half-time. Werder one goal down at the break.
55' Werder start the second half as they did the first – well. Keeping the ball well and forcing Bayern into playing down the wings.
62' Werder have the equaliser – chopped off. David Alaba loops the ball over Neuer into his own net but the referee pulls it back for a foul on the Austrian defender. What?!
71' Müller puts his side 2-0 up. After a questionable decision to award a penalty after Sternberg went in on Vidal, Müller steps up and sends Wiedwald the wrong way. Difficult situation for Werder now.
90' Full-time. Bayern 2-0 Werder.
Summary: Werder will feel very hard done by in that game. After starting both halves so well, Werder couldn't get the all-important goal. Bayern took advantage of some sloppy defending for the first, while the second was just hard luck for the Green-Whites. Nevertheless, it's been a great cup run for Werder and now we can concentrate on the league and the massive upcoming derby against HSV.
