What a day for the Green-Whites. In front of 41,000 fans in the Weser-Stadion Werder Bremen prevailed with a huge 3-2 win over Champions League quarter-finalists Wolfsburg. Claudio Pizarro opened the scoring from the penalty spot, making him Werder’s all-time leading Bundesliga goalscorer with 102 goals. Joshua Guilavogui equalised shortly after from a corner. Bartels re-took the lead for Werder before Yatabaré doubled it. Bas Dost got one back for a nail-biting finish but Werder dug deep and held out for the win.

Line-up and formation: There were two changes to the starting line-up as Pizarro made his comeback while Yatabaré also started. Ujah and Öztunali were on the bench. Skripnik opted for the same 4-1-4-1 formation that has been prominent this season.

Carelessness costs lead before break

90+3’ The final whistle is blown and Werder can celebrate a massive home victory!

Summary: Before the game it was made clear that the fans were behind the Green-Whites, but that they needed a victory desperately. The boys turned up and played great football throughout and get a deserved win. There were a few moments when it could’ve gone either way, but the better team won on the day and Skripnik can be proud of his team.
