Werder will be without Claudio Pizarro for this weekend’s away match in Dortmund due to a back problem that he picked up during the week. Pizarro didn’t take part in the Green-Whites’ final training session and will not travel with the team to Dortmund.
“It is obviously a shame when such an important player is unavailable. However, we hope that next week he will be back in full training as quickly as possible,” said head coach Viktor Skripnik in Friday’s press conference. He will also be without Papy Djilobodji who is suspended. The Werder coach can once again call upon Zlatko Junuzovic who was only able to work individually leading up to the game. Sambou Yatabaré is once again an option too after overcoming muscular problems.
Janek Sternberg has been selected in the squad for the first time since the winter break. The 23-year-old, who suffered ligament damage to his ankle in the winter training camp in Turkey will replace Ulisses Gercia in the squad.
