+++ Florian Grillitsch nets his first goal: At least in the 43rd minute Florian Grillitsch had something to smile about. His low shot found the back of the net and 41,000 Green-Whites celebrated the 20-year-old’s first Bundesliga goal. The midfielder, who has made the centre-midfield position his own under Viktor Skripnik, ran off celebrating and soaked up the appreciation from the fans. He had finally scored his long-awaited first Bundesliga goal in his 20th appearance. Unfortunately, his first Bundesliga goal that gave Werder the lead wasn’t enough to record a victory over FC Augsburg. In his breakthrough season, Grillitsch has plenty of good performance statistics to look over. As well as a goal, the Austria U21 international has also assisted three more. In his first competitive match with the diamond on his chest, Grillitsch helped Werder to proceed to the DFB Cup quarterfinals by giving the assist for a Claudio Pizarro goal as Bremen beat Leverkusen 3-1. +++

+++ One for Green-Whites all over the world: There are 6,795 kilometres between Bremen and Chicago as the crow flies, but this wasn’t going to stop Werder fan Richard Meschbach from travelling to Werder to see the team take on FC Augsburg. The 50-year-old American with Austrian roots flew to Bremen on Friday for the clash and returned home on Monday morning. In all he clocked up 13,000 kilometres to watch 90 minutes of football. He was applauded by the Werder fans in the Weser-Stadion for his feat. Especially as he is the only one in a family full of Bayern fans who supports the Green-Whites. Werder were happy to find out that he incidentally met Clemens Fritz in his home town on his birthday. It's a small world. +++

+++ Clemens Fritz Foundation hosts stadium visit: On Saturday, Clemens Fritz invited 50 children from his home town once again, in order to give them an unforgettable afternoon. Despite the bitter 2-1 loss to Augsburg, the Werder captain took time to go and meet all of the children in person at the stadium after the game. The player from Erfurt created the Clemens Fritz Foundation in December 2008 in order to support people who are less fortunate, families and non-profit organisations in Erfurt. The focus of the foundation is to promote healthy living and sport to socially disadvantaged children. The Werder player is passionate about these causes: “I have been very lucky in life and would like to give something back to the people who are having a tough time of it.” +++
