+++ Werder fans and Pizarro are ‘outstanding’: Werder fans are among the loyalest in the world, there’s no doubt about that in Bremen. Over the course of last season, Werder fans went beyond jubilantly celebrating their team’s goals, drawing positive attention to themselves in many other ways as well. One should not underestimate the role played by the fans’ #greenwhitewonderwall initiative in Werder’s survival in the Bundesliga. The magazine “11 Freunde” chose this as the “Fan Movement of the Year”. “Greenwhitewonderwall is already down in history, it epitomised an all-round positive fan movement from the Werder fans,” was the magazine’s statement. The proof that this award is absolutely deserved can be seen in the fans’ tribute section on WERDER.TV. Werder were represented in another category as well: the jury found Claudio Pizarro guilty as charged of being “Bloke of the Year” upon evidence that the Peruvian veteran has been “repaying his supporters’ love with fantastic performances for years”.+++

I'll take him at Werder, as soon as Claudio Pizarro retires.
Marco Bode

+++ Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Werder? On Tuesday, Werder’s head of the supervisory board, Marco Bode, appeared as a EURO 2016 pundit on the TV channel Sat.1. Following the match between Sweden and Belgium, Bode spoke with other footballing experts about Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s last game in his national team jersey. The discussions could not escape speculation over the Swedish superstar’s potential new employers, and, with a huge grin, Bode threw SV Werder into the mix. As for Ibrahimovic, he will have to be patient: “I would take him at Werder, as soon as Claudio Pizarro retires,” said Bode, winking. There’s simply no topping Werder’s Peruvian magician, not even for ‘King Zlatan’.
+++ Anniversary of cup win: Three seasons on the trot between 1989 and 1991 Werder made it to the DFB-Cup final, winning the title on the third attempt. 25 years ago, on the 21st June 1991, Werder beat 1.FC Köln in the final. Dieter Eilts put the Green-Whites ahead at the start of the second half, but Köln equalised not 15 minutes later. 120 minutes could not produce a winner, so a penalty-shootout was to determine the outcome. Both sides missed their first penalty, but Wynton Rufer, Rune Bratseth, Uwe Harttgen and Ulrich Borowka all scored theirs, Oliver Reck denied Pierre Litbarski and Werder won the cup - the start of a successful European adventure for the German cup winners. Still today, there are four of the 1991 cup winners (Eilts, Votava, Bode and Wolter) working for the club in various capacities. +++
