After successfully retaining our top-flight status, the season still isn’t over for several Werder players. Zlatko Junuzovic, Theo Gebre Selassie and László Kleinheisler have linked up with their national teams to prepare for this summer’s European Championship. Jannik Vestergaard, Melvyn Lorenzen and Florian Grillitsch are also on duty with their respective teams.

Werder midfielder Zlatko Junuzovic’s preparation begins on Sunday. The Austrian national team is holding a training camp in Switzerland (Laax) from 22.05.16 until 30.05.2016 ahead of EURO 2016. Following friendlies against Malta and the Netherlands, the team will travel to France for their opening fixture in Bordeaux on 14.06.2016, (18:00 CEST). Their first opponent: Hungary with László Kleinheisler.

Hungary have their first friendly on Friday evening (20.05.2016, 18:00 CEST) against the Ivory Coast, before facing Germany on 04.06.2016.

Theodor Gebre Selassie is also currently fully focused on preparating for the European Championship in France. After being included in the Czech Republic’s preliminary 28-man squad, he will be taking part in their training camp in Austria (Tyrol). After a friendly against Malta, his side will face Russia in Innsbruck on 01.06.2016 (18:00 CEST). The final part of their preparation sees them face South Korea in Prague on 05.06.2016 (15:10 CEST).

Vestergaard in far east

Denmark are unfortunately not at this summer’s European Championship but are still in action over the coming days. Jannik Vestergaard and co. are travelling to Japan to take part in the Kirin Cup. Bulgaria and Bosnia and Herzegovina are also participating in the competition alongside hosts Japan. Age Hareide’s side face Bosnia on 03.06.2016 (09:00 CEST). The third-place play-off and final are scheduled for 07.06.2016 in Osaka.

Florian Grillitsch is also going to be competing in a tournament with the Austrian U21s – the Lobanovsky Memorial Tournament in Kiev. The squad will meet up on 27.05.2016 Bad Tatzmannsdorf to prepare and will then travel to Ukraine. Werner Gregoritsch’s side face Serbia in the friendly four-nation tournament on 31.05.2016 (14:00 CEST). They will then either face Israel or hosts Ukraine.

Melvyn Lorenzen is also away after receiving his first international call-up for Uganda, the country his father comes from. The 20-year-old forward is in the squad for the friendly against Zimbabwe on 30.05.2016 (15:00 CEST). Following the game, manager Milutin Sredojević will then name his squad for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Botswana – possibly again including Lorenzen.
