"Obviously we would like to have kept hold of Jannik and we were able to make that clear in our discussions just how important he is to us. But he has short term sporting goals which we cannot offer him here and we have always said we will be ready to talk if an offer comes in that makes sense for all sides," told sporting director Frank Baumann.
Vestergaard joined SV Werder in January 2015 from 1899 Hoffenheim. In his 18 months at the Green-Whites, the centreback made 48 Bundesliga appearances (3 goals), as well as six (1 goal) in the DFB Cup.
