National teams all around the world have been busy preparing for a number of upcoming tournaments in the pre-season break. Some Werder players are right in the middle of the action. Junuzovic, Kleinheisler & Co. are busy training and playing friendlies with their international teams. Theodor Gebre Selassie had a particularly eventful match, coming back from 1-0 down early on against Russia to win in a thrilling encounter. WERDER.DE has rounded up the results of all the matches with Green-Whites involved.

31/05/2016, 15:00 CEST: Zimbabwe 2-0 Uganda

Melvyn Lorenzen will have imagined his debut going differently. The Werder attacker lost his first international for the Uganda national team 2-0. Against Zimbabwe, who are 126th in the FIFA World Rankings, the “Cranes” went behind early on and after half an hour the hosts doubled their advantage. Uganda will play a decisive qualifier for the Africa Cup of Nations on 4th April 2016 but they will be without Lorenzen. The 21-year-old, who has a Ugandan father and a German mother, has not yet confirmed which nation he would like to represent in competitive internationals.

31/05/2016, 20:30 CEST:  Austria 2-1 Malta

Austria completed their penultimate test ahead of the European Championship finals against Malta on Tuesday evening. Austria and Zlatko Junuzovic won 2-1 against the island state. Ex-Werder man Marko Arnautovic put his team ahead in the fourth minute after a mistake from the Malta defence. Austria increased their lead in the 18th minute through Schalke youngster Alessandro Schöpf after good work from Zlatko Junuzovic. Malta gained a consolation goal in the closing stages through a David Alaba own goal.

01/06/2016, 18:00 CEST: Czech Republic 2-1 Russia

After triumphing 6-0 over Malta in the first of their friendlies, the Czech Republic continued their winning ways with a well earned 2-1 win over fellow European Championship participants Russia. Theodor Gebre Selassie started the match in his regular right-back position but could do nothing to stop Kokorin putting the visitors ahead in the fourth minute. Veteran Tomás Rosicky put the hosts back on terms before the break with Tomas Necid scoring the winner in the final minute. The Czech Republic will continue their preparation for EURO 2016 with another friendly against South Korea on Sunday.
