Another key performer and long-serving Werder player has committed his future to the Green Whites! Philipp Bargfrede has extended his contract by one year, keeping him at the club until 2018. “Philipp is an extremely important player for the team, who we wanted to tie down to the club long term. We made it clear earlier in the year that his is still in our plans and we are very happy to have wrapped up this contract extension,” explained Thomas Eichin.

Bargfrede has being wearing the Green-White colours for twelve years now and will continue to do so for at least two more. “Werder is my sporting home and over overall I feel very content here,” said Bargfrede, who is currently recovering from a long-term injury at a rehabilitation centre near the Chiemsee lake.

The Werder midfielder joined the club’s academy from TuS Heeslingen in 2004, where he progressed through the U17s, U19s and U23s. In 2008 he signed his first professional contract, before making the big leap into the Bundesliga a year later. Bargfrede has made 164 appearances for Werder (137 in the Bundesliga) scoring four goals.
