After the final whistle, the fans were given a voice. Understandably, they were left feeling unconfident after the loss in the derby. Clemens Fritz, Papy Djilobodji and Co. spoke to them at the end of the match in the Volksparkstadion. "It’s clear that the fans are annoyed," said the captain. WERDER.DE gathered the thoughts of all the players and management after the match.

On the game:

Clemens Fritz: "I’m upset and disappointed. We have to take the blame because we just weren’t in the game in the first half hour. We allowed them far too many easy chances, didn’t win our challenges or play transitional football. After that we were good. We showed that we wanted to turn it around, even from 2-0 down. But the fact is that it was too late by then."

Viktor Skripnik: "Of course we’re disappointed because we wanted to get three points for the fans. It was all or nothing and both teams wanted the win. We were tried at the beginning and paid the price. We reacted well, though. If we play as we did in the latter stages in the next three games, we’ll win."

Marco Bode: "The team deserved appoint. The team weren’t fully fit after the midweek game but we were the better side in the second half and had a lot of chances. It was an important game in which we, unfortunately, threw away points."

Felix Wiedwald: "We didn’t show up at the start and that’s the reason we lost. Maybe we planned to do too much. It wasn’t a good performance. It’s a shame we couldn’t get another goal in the second half."

Thomas Eichin: "HSV were aggressive and executed their opportunities. We were far better in the second half and we had momentum on our side. We didn’t reward ourselves with the second goal though. The least you need in a game like this is a draw."

On the missed penalty:

Thomas Eichin: "He’s an important player but no miracle worker. Just because he often scores, doesn’t mean he will always score."

Felix Wiedwald: "There’s no blame on him. He took the responsibility and stepped up. It’s normal not to score. It’s just a shame it happened tonight."

Clemens Fritz: "Claudio has scored the last five or six. He saves points for us often, it’s just a shame he didn’t score today."

On the last three games:

Felix Wiedwald: "We proceed as a team. We have a ten-day gap and two games at home. If we win them then we have done all we can."

Thomas Eichin: "We had the chance to shoot up the table and give ourselves some room but we didn’t. There are nine points left to play for. We need as many of those as possible. It’s not good enough just to play well."

Clemens Fritz: "We could’ve made our situation a lot better today but we failed. We need to stabilise. It’s incredibly difficult if you concede two a game. We can’t think of ourselves as relegated already. We need to stay positive and work hard."
