SV Werder Bremen will head into the upcoming games together with head coach Viktor Skripnik and his team. Chief executive Thomas Eichin underlined the board’s backing of the manager once more on Monday. “It’s our job to calmly and thoroughly analyse and assess the situation. After talks over the last few days with the coaching staff, the players and the supervisory committee, we have decided to continue along the path we’re on,” explained Eichin at Monday lunch time.
“This coaching team, headed by Viktor Skripnik, is the ideal setup for SV Werder Bremen. We have always wanted to have this exact team and that’s still how we feel. We have a Werder legend on board in the form of Torsten Frings, who with his experience can teach the players a great deal. Florian Kohfeldt was the best in his coaching class and is a real talent that has come through the ranks and like Christian Vander has been a part of the club for many years,” said Eichin.
After the home loss to fellow relegation rivals FC Augsburg, the staff showed the necessary response. “It was important to see that there is no rift between the players and the coaching team,” stressed Eichin. “We’re confident that the coaching staff are strong enough to lead us to our goal of staying up in this difficult period,” added the Werder chief executive. He also dismissed rumours that a change of manager is planned for the summer. “Everyone in the coaching team has a contract at Werder Bremen for next season and there’s nothing to suggest that they won’t stay with us for a long time.”
Preparations for the important home game against VfL Wolfsburg begin with two training sessions on Tuesday. “We’re fully focused on Saturday’s game. We won’t do any media work this week and will cut out a number of marketing activities. We’re not thinking about anything other than the match,” explained Eichin.
