For some players, there is barely any time to recover after the 1-1 draw with Mainz as eight head off to represent their countries in the upcoming international break.

The one with the furthest distance to travel was Werder goalscorer Claudio Pizarro. After earning the Green-Whites a point, the Peruvian grabbed his bags and got straight on a plane to his home country. He will represent Peru in their upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Venezuela and Uruguay.

European Championship qualifiers and friendlies

The journey isn’t quite as far for Zlatko Junuzovic and Florian Grillitsch. The midfielders are both travelling to Austria. The former will come up against Albania and Turkey in two friendlies. Meanwhile, Grillitsch will face Ukraine in a friendly before playing the Faroe Islands in the European Championship qualifier for the under 21 side. He remains on standby for a call-up to the full national team.

Levin Öztunali and Ulisses García will also both take part in European Championship qualifiers. Levin Öztunali has received a call-up to the Germany U21 side who take on the Faroe Islands and the Russia. García will play against England with the Switzerland under-21 side.

Werder centre back Jannik Vestergaard has made the Denmark team and will play two friendlies against Iceland and then against Scotland. Gebre Selassie will also face Scotland with the Czech national team in a friendly before facing Sweden five days later.

Youngster Leon Guwara has made the cut for Germany U20s, who play at home and then away to Switzerland. Meanwhile, Yatabaré and Veljkovic have had to miss out on their call-ups for the Mali and Serbia U21 national sides respectively:
