"It’s obviously easy to talk about it if you weren’t on the pitch, but if we play like that again we won’t win any more game," said the 35-year-old in the wake of the loss. "It would be careless to think that we are finished with our good results after the two 4-1 victories. We have to keep going to the end. I hope that everyone knows that."

Fritz wants the team to take responsibility but will lead by example. "Staying in the league is the most important thing. I will give my all to avoid relegation." Werder need to somehow regain the team spirit that was present after the two great wins against Leverkusen and Hannover, without allowing the Bayern loss to dampen it. "We need to move on from that game and can’t allow ourselves to perform like that again, but we should still take the positives and not be frightened."
The captain has said that they must take their fate into their own hands and that they will only stay up by winning and getting points on the board. "We have to work hard and force points our way. To just hope that other teams will lose will not help us," explained the retiring Fritz.
