After a disappointing last night in Munich, preparations immediately began for next Saturday’s important home meeting with Mainz 05 on Sunday morning. Head coach Viktor Skripnik welcomed his players back to the training pitches at 10:00 CET for a warm-down session. While the players who featured against FC Bayern did some recovery exercises, the rest of the squad worked with the ball. However, the boss had to do with four players.

Alongside captain Clemens Fritz and defender Papy Djilobodji, who were both excused for a private engagement, Claudio Pizarro was also missing from Sunday’s session. The Peruvian, who pulled out of training on Thursday with a groin strain, continues to be sidelined. The 37-year-old is remaining in Munich for the time being to undergo further treatment. “Claudio will try and train individually on Wednesday. We’ll see how we take things from there,” said Skripnik on Sunday afternoon.

Fin Bartels was also missing. The midfielder completed an individual session indoors after recently suffering from a cold. “He will train on his own again tomorrow. I hope that he will be able to return to team training on Tuesday,” said the Werder manager.

There is no team training on Monday, before the players are due to complete a double shift on Tuesday. The sessions at 10:00 and 15:00 CET are open to the public.
