On Saturday afternoon at approximately 3:55 pm the noise level inside the Weser-Stadion erupted as Claudio Pizarro had just graceful guided the ball past opposing defenders Sakai and Milosevic to fire a half volley into the back of Hannover’s net. It was a special goal for the Peruvian striker, as it marked his 100th Bundesliga goal for SVW. His record-run continues, as he is just one goal adrift of Bremen’s all-time leading goalscorer, Marco Bode.
“He has my utmost respect. It’s unbelievable what he pulls off week in and week out,” praised skipper Clemens Fritz and continued with a smirk: “We know about his qualities and we are slowly getting used to the fact that he scores in every game.” When asked about his striker, manager Viktor Skripnik also found words of praise: “He is the first to arrive and the last to go home.”
“He joined us before being fully fit but fought his way back and reached his perfect physical condition. I’m glad that he was able to train with us during the entire winter preparation and that he stayed injury-free. Now we can see how lively and fit he is on the pitch. We all knew that he was still able to play quality football,” continued the Bremen coach.
But not only players and coaches were happy for Pizarro, sporting director Thomas Eichin also raved on about Werder’s top goalscorer. “He is an outstanding football player, who can control the ball and play the smart pass. He has a sense for dangerous situations and is always capable of scoring a goal. His performances are top notch,” said Eichin.
Pizarro himself is flattered. “It’s nice to hear things like that,” answered Pizarro when told about the praising words of his colleagues. “But I’m just happy to be out on the pitch and to be able to help the team.” Humble, team-player and a great attitude - these are the qualities that make Pizarro so important for the Green-Whites and indispensable in the Bundesliga.
