Werder are on their way to Leverkusen, and that includes Clemens Fritz. The captain declared himself fit after the final training session and has been included in the squad. Head coach Viktor Skripnik can therefore once again rely on Werder’s experienced leader for the important away game against Bayer 04.
“If the captain says he is fit, then he starts. I have already said several times that he serious with me, and of course I am really glad that he was able to train without any pain,” said Skripnik.
However, if Fritz does play on Wednesday (kick-off: 20:00 CET) in Leverkusen, he has to remember that he is one yellow card away from a suspension, with the combative leader already on nine bookings for the season. Zlatko Junuzovic and Felix Wiedwald are also one away from a suspension.
Claudio Pizarro, Santiago García and Theodor Gebre Selassie are all fit for yet another meeting with Bayer. The trio have been working individually in the weights room since the start of the week. However, this game has come too soon for Janek Starnberg, who only returned to full training with the team on Monday.
