Werder Bremen and fitness coach Yann-Benjamin Kugel will no longer work together when their contract runs out on 30 June 2012, as Werder board chairman Klaus Allofs announced on Sunday.
"We thought about an extension because we are very satisfied with Benjamin Kugel's work. But the problem was the double burden with his extra position with the national team. In the end, it was his own choosing to re-order his duties," said Allofs.
Kugel has been part of Werder's coaching staff since 1 July 2008 and has been the fitness coach for Germany since May 2010. "I had a great time with Werder. I would like to thank Klaus Allofs, Thomas Schaaf and all the colleagues for the valuable experience which I gathered here - and also that they allowed me to have the double role with the club and the DFB. That was not necessarily self-evident," said Kugel. "But I would like to set my personal priorities elsewhere and work on other things in addition to my work with the DFB."
Kugel will begin his preparations for the 2012 European Championship with the German team starting on 10 May 2012.
