On Tuesady evening, during a jovial gathering, Werder Bremen took the opportunity to honour it's German champions and runners-up as well as it's North German champions from the recently culminated 2004/2005 season. "It was a very good year for Werder Bremen and I thank all of our sportsmen and women who represented us so successfully", remarked Klaus-Dieter Fischer, President of "SV Werder est. 1889 e.V" and member of the Werder Bremen GmbH & Co KG aA.

The most sensational success of the recent season was that of the Bundesliga Chess Department who won the German championship. "Noone here expected this triumph prior to the season. Werders team wrote history in a nail biting final against Porz when they took the title back to the Weser for the first time", commented Fischer.

Another very special achievement was that of the Under 15 footbal team under the guidance of Thorsten Bolder, Horst-Dieter Höttges and Oliver Seedorf. Fischer: "For the fourth time in a row, the Under 15 side have won the German championship - and that considering the strenght of competition from such clubs as Hamburg SV, Hanover 96 or VfL Wolfsburg. No other team has managed that."

Werder were very nearly celebrating championship wins in all six departments of the club. In the battle to win the North-German champinship, the ladies B-youth handball team were pipped by HSC 2000 Magdeburg. "Unfortunately, at the end, it wasn't quite enough for the title but they did provide a number of great performances", praised Fischer who himself took the German Men's 60's Prellball runners-up.

A gold pin was awarded to the champions with the runners-up and North-German champions taking a silver pin. The sports people also recieved a DVD collection of the greatest moments of their successes as well as limited edition Werder 04/05 pictures from the Bremen artist Jub Mönster.
