Marco Friedl set to be sidelined for several weeks

Marco Friedl’s injury in Tuesday’s training session has proven to be more serious than initially expected. Detailed tests have revealed that Werder’s captain has suffered a syndesmosis ligament tear and will be unavailable for several weeks.

“While the situation with Marco still seemed fairly good yesterday afternoon, it deteriorated pretty badly overnight, and as such we did some more tests on Wednesday morning which revealed a tear in the syndesmosis ligament,” explained Clemens Fritz, head of professional football at SV Werder Bremen.
