Things are getting serious for Niclas Füllkrug and Milos Veljkovic: Germany and Serbia kick off their World Cup campaigns this week. The rest of Werder’s internationals have also put on their national team kits this week.

Jiri Pavlenka was between the sticks on Saturday evening during the Czech Republic’s 2-1 defeat against Turkey for the first half. Ilia Gruev played the entirety of Bulgaria’s 0-0 draw with Luxembourg. Romano Schmid was substituted after 81 minutes during Austria’s impressive 2-0 win over European Champions Italy.

Germany U20s took on Norway in the U20 Elite League. Hannes Wolf’s side jumped to the top of the league following their 2-1 win. Lasse Rosenboom, however, didn’t play. Nick Woltemade who is currently on loan at third division side SV Elversberg, played the full match. The U20s take on Portugal in Zwickau for the final game of the year.

After the World Cup official got up and running on Sunday, the Green-Whites called up for the tournament are also getting ready for their experience to start. Niclas Füllkrug was back training following his infection. Germany start their campaign against Japan on Wednesday. Milos Veljkovic was on the bench during Serbia’s final warm up game against Bahrain due to a problem with his Achilles tendon, but will be hoping to be in action when they face tournament favourites Brazil on Thursday evening (20:00 CET).
