With four goals and two assists, Niclas Füllkrug has played a significant part in the team’s success. His impressive individual performances have been commended with a nomination for “Player of the month for October”. The fan voting for the award by the DFL and EA Sports can still be done until Sunday night.
“Lücke” was a somewhat surprised himself at him over being named “Player of the month for September”. “I didn’t personally find my September too impressive. August was better really,” said the striker when receiving the award at the beginning of October. He would be allowed to think differently this time around. His six goal contributions in October are equalled by only one other nominee in the shape of Leipzig attacker Christopher Nkunku. The majority of these goals and assist were scored by Füllkrug at the beginning of the month.
With a brace and an assist against Gladbach, “Lücke” played a key role in the 5-1 home win. The 29-year-old also played his part in the subsequent 2-1 away win in Hoffenheim, picking up a further goal and an assist. He finished the month similarly strongly to the start, scoring a late header in the home game against Hertha to secure and 1-0 win for the team and three important points.
The fan voting by the DFL in co-operation with EA Sports is already open. The nominees alongside Füllkrug and Nkunku are Jesper Lindström (Frankfurt), Vincenzo Grifo (Freiburg), Paulo Otavio (Wolfsburg) and Jude Bellingham (Dortmund). The winner will be awarded with not only a trophy but also a special card on FIFA 23. Because this has only happened to Füllkrug once, his rating would go up even more considerably.
