Jiri Pavlenka, who missed the first training session of the week as his broken nose was set back into place, returned on Wednesday as the team prepares for their away fixture with Borussia Dortmund on Saturday (15:30 CEST), in which he will start in goal.

Marvin Ducksch and Amos Pieper will also be available to face their former academy side. Ducksch had to train individually on Monday due to a muscular issue, as did Pieper who suffered a head injury against Stuttgart, but both trained with the team again today. “Amos and Duckschi are definitely fit. They are, just like the others in contention to make the squad and also to play,” Werner explained in his pre-match press conference.

Werder’s head coach is left only without the services of long-term absentees Dikeni Salifou and Manuel Mbom. However, there is positive news:  while his teammates trained for the game in Dortmund, Salifou returned to the pitch and completed a running session.
