Werder’s Head of Professional Football and Scouting described yesterday as, “a wild game and can understand if you felt it was very entertaining.” He however added, “We have certain expectations before the game of how we want to play, and these were not met in the first half against Frankfurt.”
Equally, Fritz praised Frankfurt as a team of the highest quality; nevertheless, the defeat was not solely down to the opposition, but also Werder’s own mistakes. “We know the mistakes that we made yesterday, but we also know that we can play better.” The attacking style of play that Werder have implemented in their games up to now is not up for discussion. “We want to play a style of football that is brave. This is not something that we want to change,” said Fritz, who sees the team as well-equipped as end of the transfer window gets ever closer: “We are pleased with our squad and its quality.”
Fritz suggested that whether Leonardo Bittencourt will feature in this squad this coming weekend in Bochum remains to be seen after his substitution due to injury. He also gave his initial thoughts on the fifth Bundesliga game of the season just a day after Werder’s fourth: “We will work on all areas in the next few days and adjust well for the game against Bochum."
