Werder Bremen and the life stories of Jewish club members. A must read for all loyal Werder fans!
The authors, connoisseurs of the Werder fan scene and partly trained historians, give in this book a profound insight of the SVW in the Nazi era.
The book deals with the period of National Socialism, Jewish fates at SVW as well as the fact that until today an overall presentation of the club history of SVW between 1933 and 1945 is missing. This is now done here for the first time and the fates of Jewish club members at SV Werder Bremen are reappraised. Alfred Ries, club president before 1933 and after 1945, plays a central role in this. New findings are brought forth, according to which the significance of the former club president Alfred Ries must be reconsidered and his role should be classified as altogether more positive than previously portrayed.
