Jiri Pavlenka and Jean-Manuel Mbom will be the only Werder Bremen players permitted to join up with their national teams during the upcoming international break. Pavlenka and the Czech Republic will take on Germany in Leipzig while Mbom has been called up for Germany U21s for their games against Slovenia and Wales that take place in Braunschweig. No other players will feature for their countries....
Two members of the Czech Republic support staff have tested positive for Covid-19. All of the players who were in the squad on Friday (4/9/2020) for the game against Slovakia are thus returning to their club sides. Jiri Pavlenka is expected to return to Bremen on Sunday (6/9/2020). Despite the Coronavirus cases amongst the support staff, all players have tested negative for Covid-19 so far.
Three games, zero goals conceded. One person who is particular pleased with this record is Jiri Pavlenka. It’s now the first time the Czech goalkeeper has managed to keep three consecutive clean sheets during his time at the club. Nevertheless, Pavlenka is still Pavlenka.
There’s only one way of communicating with the outside world for Jiri Pavelenka at the moment – via his smartphone. The Werder goalkeeper keeps in touch with his family just a few miles away from the team’s quarantine hotel every day on Facetime. It’s also the only way that the Czech shot-stopper can hold interviews ahead of the Bundesliga restart as well.
Despite all the new developments surrounding the Coronavirus pandemic, there are also some footballing issues to be dealing with. An appearance for Jiri Pavlenka against Leverkusen will still be a bit too early for him. Philipp Bargfrede and Fin Bartels are, however, candidates for a return.
