Johannes Eggestein’s 19/20 campaign began on Monday. Despite missing the team’s intensive training camp in Zillertal, the attacker knows what needs to be done. The aims are clear. “Florian Kohfeldt and I have discussed the possibility of me playing on the wing next season,” explained Eggestein in the media round on Tuesday afternoon.
In order to live up to the head coach’s demands, Eggestein needs to develop the physical side of his game. “There is a lot of potential there, and I am really up for it,” said the 21-year-old, who feels even fitter than in previous pre-season campaigns after the U21 European Championship and a shorter summer break.
Jojo hasn’t yet fully processed his experiences at both club and international level, but knows exactly what the next steps look like. “I still need to get more experience and continue to learn how to handle myself on the pitch and the best way to use my strengths,” summarised Eggestein after his first full Bundesliga season, in which he scored four goals and picked up two assists in 23 games. The attacker is already focused on his first day back in Bremen, with his sights set on picking up more game time in his new position.
