March was his month! Max Kruse’s performance was also recognized by the fans, who voted him as the EA Sports Player of the Month. He is the first Werder player to receive the award. “It’s a big honour for me, since it’s not something that just gets given to you. It’s also a compliment to the team, since this wouldn’t have been possible without them,” Kruse said.

Kruse beat out Robert Lewandowski, James Rodriguez, Marcel Halstenberg, Filip Kostic, and teammate Milot Rashica to take home the award. The Werder captain racked up six goals and three assists in March. “March has been a good month for me over the last few years. Maybe it’s because I’m always a year older and have to put in more effort each time,” Kruse joked.

This season, Bundesliga fans are able to vote for their pick for Player of the Month every month. The voting is handled by the DFL in coordination with EA Sports. At the end of the season, fans will be able to choose from this season’s past winners as their pick for Player of the Season. Kruse will be up against Marco Reus, Julian Brandt, Jadon Sancho, and Leon Goretzka.
