When Florian Kohfeldt names his team on a matchday, like all Bundesliga managers, he names seven substitutes. However, this could be about to change. The DFL Commission spoke out in favour of increasing the number of substitutes from seven to nine at the beginning of the week. A decision is still to be made.
Several Bundesliga clubs are in favour of the increase. However, Werder boss Florian Kohfeldt doesn’t think that it’s necessary: “I think six substitutes is enough to react to certain game situations.”
For Frank Baumann, the rule change would leave teams with more opportunities. However, they would have to “lay the ground rules.” For example, the substitutes’ bench would have to be changed, which can only hold 17 people at the moment. The away dressing room might also have to be changed.
