Fin Bartels will finally make his return to playing this weekend, getting some minutes under his belt with the Werder U23s against SC Weiche Flensburg 08 tomorrow.
Bartels’ time out injured seems to be finally coming to an end, and he’s been slowly returning to training with the rest of the team in recent weeks. It will be a special moment for him when he returns to the pitch this weekend.
According to Florian Kohfeldt, “There’s a lot of joy, as I knew that Fin would be returning to the pitch this weekend. We’re all happy that it’s time, because he’s suffered a lot in the last year. Bartels has been involved with a few training sessions with the U23s in preparation for the game against Flensburg.
Getting minutes under his belt with the Under-23 side will help Bartels get some match fitness back and take him closer to a comeback with the first team. The game against FC Schalke 04 on 8th March will again come too soon for the forward, but Bartels will be back in contention “after the international break at the latest”, according to Kohfeldt.
“What he’s doing in training so far gives me a lot of reason to hope that he’ll come back in a very good condition,” added the head coach.
