Osako named in Japan’s final World Cup squad

Kainz and Austria beat Russia, Eggestein also in action

Yuya Osako is going to the World Cup! The Japanese football association and head coach Akira Nishino released their official 23-man squad for this summer’s tournament on Thursday, which included the new Werder man. The 28-year-old moved to Bremen from 1. FC Cologne last week.

Elsewhere, Florian Kainz played his part in a successful outing for the Austria national team. The winger started in his country’s 1-0 victory over World Cup hosts Russia and played 72 minutes. Schalke’s Alessandro Schöpf scored the winning goal.

Milot Rashica was also in international action the day prior as Kosovo beat Albania 3-0 in a friendly. Rashica played a total of 60 minutes for Kosovo. Johannes Eggestein was also in action as the Germany U20s faced off against the senior side in a friendly. The young striker played in both friendlies in Eppan, which the youngsters lost 7-1 and 2-0.

Josh Sargent, who scored a goal on his debut for the US Men’s National Team, is set to play two more games over the next few weeks. US coach Dave Sarachan named Sargent in his squad to face Ireland (2nd June) and France (9th June).
