Werder midfielder Jerome Gondorf has an a successful operation on his appendix. The 27-year-old will be sidelined for a few weeks though.
“The operation went well and I’m hoping to leave the hospital in the next few days. For now, I’ll have to watch Monday’s match on TV and I’ll have my fingers crossed for the team,” said Gondorf. Head coach Florian Kohfeldt visited Jerome and had the following to say: “Jerome has gastrointestinal problems. He's doing okay. We're not sure how long he'll be out for. He could be an option for Frankfurt.”

Florian Grillitsch’s pre-season hasn’t gone to plan so far. The Austrian midfielder has been suffering from an ear infection, which has meant that he has only been able to train individually to date. The 20-year-old has travelled to the training camp with his teammates and it is hoped that he will be able to return to full training in the coming days.
With around six and a half weeks to go until the start of the new Bundesliga season, the German Football League has released the exact fixtures for the first five matchdays. It was already known that Werder would start the new campaign at the German champions Bayern Munich (26th August, 20:30 CEST), but now the Werder fans can take a look at the other encounters at the start of the season.

The players will spend a week in the region in order to work on stamina and athleticism. “The foundation work for the season will take place here,” remarked sporting director Frank Baumann.
