Thomas Delaney will no longer be a Werder player next season. Werder’s sporting director, Frank Baumann, revealed on Sunday that the midfielder will transfer to Borussia Dortmund. Both clubs have agreed not to disclose the details of the transfer.
“Thomas has made great strides in the Bundesliga and is seeking a new test. He has always emphasised his desire to play all over the World and to take on a host of different challenges. We thank him for his great commitment and enthusiasm while at Werder and we wish him all the best at Borussia Dortmund”, said Baumann.
Delaney was the captain of Champions League competitors FC Copenhagen before arriving in Bremen. During his year-and-a-half stint at the club, the 26-year-old midfielder made 45 Bundesliga and four DFB-Pokal appearances for Werder, with seven goals and seven assists to his name. Delaney will travel with Denmark to the World Cup in Russia this June.
