Werder have signed another promising youth talent for their U23s team. The Green-Whites have signed central defender Dominik Becker from 1. FC Köln for the 2019/2020 season. Club sporting director Frank Baumann announced the signing of the 19 year-old on Wednesday.
“We are delighted to have been able to sign a talented defender in Dominik Becker. We have been monitoring his progress for a while and he has developed extraordinarily well in recent years. He has also performed well with Germany’s youth teams,” said Baumann.
Björn Schierenbeck, director of the WERDER performance centre, also praised the club’s signing. “Dominik Becker will play an important role for our U23s next season. He is a flexible player who can play in a variety of roles. He has developed strengths both as a centre-back and as a full-back.”
Additionally, 19-year-old Becker was thrilled at the prospect of joining Werder. “I’m very proud to be signing for SV Werder Bremen. The club has had a proud history of developing young players and giving them a chance to shine. Consequently, I’m excited for the future,”added Becker.
In the summer of 2014, Dominik Becker joined 1. FC Köln’s youth academy from TuS Koblenz. The 19 year-old has gone on to make 13 appearances for Effzeh in the A-Junioren Bundesliga West. Becker has also represented Germany at U17s, U18s and U19s level.
