Werder Bremen have now officially signed Lee Buchanan. The 21-year-old English defender has signed his contract with the club after completing his medical tests and will move to Bremen on a free transfer from Derby County.
"We have followed Lee’s progress for a long time now. He’s a quick, tough-tackling full back with the experience of 70 games in the Championship. We’re delighted that we could convince him to join Werder,” explained Clemens Fritz.
“Lee is most comfortable at left back. He will bring a lot to the club and will give us more options in defence. We’re confident that he will take the next step in his development with us,” said head coach Ole Werner.
Buchanan, who has won two caps for England U21s, is excited for his new challenge: “Werder Bremen are still a big name in Europe, even if the last few years haven’t been so successful. I’m looking forward to my time here, to meeting the fans and playing in the Bundesliga. It’s one of the best leagues in Europe.”
Lee Buchanan came through Derby County’s academy and went on to play 70 times for them in the Championship.
