Werder’s central defender Ömer Toprak is continuing his current rehabilitation in Leverkusen. As head coach Markus Anfang explained on Tuesday, “It’s important for us to find the best course of action for each individual player.”
It was therefore decided that the Werder captain should carry out the next stage of his rehab away from Bremen. “Our doctor is in constant contact with Dr. Burak Yildirim, with whom we have a good relationship.” Toprak knows team doctor Yildirim from his time at Bayer 04 Leverkusen. The priority for the captain is to leave Bremen and get back to full fitness so he can be available for selection again for a long period of time.
Toprak has been out multiple times with muscle issues recently. The 32-year-old had to be taken off against Paderborn and Ingolstadt and had to miss out completely against Karlsruhe, Hamburg, Dresden and Heidenheim.
