SV Werder Bremen have secured another new player for next season. Niklas Stark has signed on a free transfer from Hertha BSC. The centre-back agreed the move on Saturday.
“We have kept an eye on Niklas for a long time and now we have had the chance to get him to Bremen. With almost 200 Bundesliga games under his belt, he will bring lots of experience with him,” explained Clemens Fritz, director of professional football and scouting.
Head coach Ole Werner was also delighted with the defensive acquisition: “Niklas is a tough and technically strong defender, who has seen a lot in his career so far. He will definitely be able to help us right away. It’s nice that our plans at Werder were able to convince him to join.”
“I had some really positive conversations with the bosses here at Werder and it felt right straight away. I’m looking forward to being a part of this club and I want to play my role in permanently establishing Werder back in the Bundesliga,” said Stark.
Niklas Stark began his career at FSV Ipsheim, eventually ending up at 1. FC Nürnberg’s academy after a spell at TSV Neustadt/Aisch. He joined Hertha BSC from FCN in 2015, playing 199 times for them in the Bundesliga (7 goals). The 27-year-old, who has won both the U19 and U21 European Championships, has picked up two caps so far for Germany’s senior side.
