Who is available to play for Werder in the Nordderby? Head coach Markus Anfang is currently incapable of giving a definitive answer to this question, as there are question marks surrounding the fitness of Marvin Ducksch, Mitchell Weiser, Ömer Toprak and Eren Dinkci. Felix Agu and Leonardo Bittencourt are definitely going to miss out on Saturday’s crunch match against Hamburger SV (kick-off 20:30 CEST).

Markus Anfang had both positive and not so positive news to share on his players’ fitness levels before a behind-closed-doors training session on Thursday morning. He stated that Mitchell Weiser is currently suffering a muscular issue. “We’ll have to see just how he’s doing today. Marvin Ducksch was quite ill and took some time out, but he’s back training today,” commented Anfang during a press conference.

Captain Ömer Toprak’s fitness issues are a combination of those of Weiser and Ducksch. “He was alsoill and had a muscular issue,” said Anfang, who must wait to see if Toprak will be able to feature. Eren Dinkci will do some fitness tests on Friday morning and Oscar Schönfelder has participated in team training in part. “We’re staying positive and we definitely have enough players in the squad. I think that we’ll get good news surrounding one or some players, but it’s tough to say right now whether someone with a muscular injury will be able to play come the weekend,” added Anfang.
