Markus Anfang wished to stress that the video analysis following the Nordderby was extremely self-critical. “It just wasn’t pleasant,” said the head coach with regards to the post-match analysis of the 2-0 defeat against HSV. “It was difficult to watch the mistakes, and it was an awkward atmosphere, but we needed to be honest to ourselves and watch it over again.” The Green-Whites will be hoping to build on the two previous, more successful fixtures in Dresden on Sunday (kick-off 13:30 CEST).
The video analysis of the match showed that the team was asleep during the opening period of the game as well as wasteful in front of goal. They also made decisive errors in defence and unnecessary tackles which heavily reduced their chances of victory.
The “really disappointing” atmosphere was followed by a “good, intensive week of training,” revealed Anfang at this week’s press conference. “I’ve noticed that the lads want to put things right. I think the team has applied itself well this week and I hope that we are able to build on the performances of the two games which occurred before the Nordderby this weekend,” added the Werder head coach.
Anfang is expecting an emotional game and a great atmosphere from our hosts, recently-promoted Dynamo Dresden. He is aware of exactly what the team must not allow to happen: “We cannot show off our qualities if we make errors which damage ourselves. That’s where need to be self-critical, something which could have helped us last week.”
