SV Werder got off to a new week of training in a good mood. Despite a fourth well-earned win in a row at home to Fortuna Düsseldorf, there is no time to sit back and relax. “We’re making sure that we keep working with full focus and doing a good job from Monday to Sunday,” said head coach Ole Werner, as he spoke to the Media on Tuesday.

Ole Werner on...

... the current good run of form: “I don’t get the feeling that I need to slow things down yet. We’re making sure that we keep working with full focus and doing a good job from Monday to Sunday.  There will definitely be days in the future where I’m not happy with the performance in training, and I’ll speak about that openly when I see it. We can only increase our chance of winning games on the weekend if we continually work with maximum concentration during the week.”

... Mitchell Weiser: “Mitch tested positive for Corona on Tuesday. It’s been a tough time for him personally in the last few weeks, as he’s had to keep going into isolation and taking breaks. When he does train or he makes appearances, you can see his quality and how good a player he is. What’s even more frustrating is that him being out means once again a different option is missing for the Paderborn game.”

... the squad and possible winter arrivals: “Everything will stay the same for the time being. I feel great with my quad and think we have more than enough quality to be successful. When some certain things come up and it’s financially possible to do a deal, then we will look into things. If nothing happens on that front, then I’m still very much of the opinion that we have great options in all positions.”

... upcoming opponents SC Paderborn: “Paderborn is a strong team for 2. Bundesliga standards and really show their strengths going forward. They’ve signed an awful lot of quality so far in this window. We know what kind of task is awaiting us and will prepare ourselves well for it. Nevertheless, we’re confident in ourselves that we can put in a good shift.”

... his assistant coaches: “We usually have a chat amongst ourselves before training and decide who will run what, in terms of drills and excercises. Patrick Kohlmann, for example, is primarily responsible for individual training programs. That means he does extra sessions with players who need them. Hannes Drews works as the bridge between the youth academy and the first team, as well as his daily role in training, and Tom Cichon is responsible for analysing opponents.”
