Milos Veljkovic will not be available for SV Werder’s for the upcoming home game against Schalke 04. The Serbia international defender suffered a muscular injury whilst playing for his country on Sunday. His absence is the result of further medical tests conducted in Bremen on Tuesday.

Werder’s defender was forced off in Serbia’s eventual 2-1 win against Portugal at around the hour mark. The final game of qualification group A, the match was a decider of which country would automatically qualify for Qatar 2022, and which would be forced into the playoffs. 26-year-old Veljkovic was in the starting XI for Serbia and was part of a defence which stifled world-class attackers for large portions of the match. A last-minute Aleksandar Mitrovic winner saw Serbia win their group and qualify, and despite not being on the pitch Veljkovic joined in the celebrations from the stands.

Following his return to Bremen, our defender has begun an individual rehabilitation program, so that he can return to the pitch in green and white as soon as possible.
