It was a weekend to forget for the Green Whites as Werder fell to a 3-0 defeat on the road against Dynamo Dresden, a second consecutive defeat following a loss in the Nordderby a week prior. “We made too many individual errors and weren’t decisive enough in duels. We lacked conviction and weren’t clear enough in many actions. Now we have to discuss everything without criticising the players,” Anfang told WERDER.TV.
In terms of injuries, there was good news. Everyone involved in the Dresden game came through unscathed and took part in the new week of training. Felix Agu and Leonardo Bittencourt were also able to participate in parts of team training, but the head coach doesn’t see the pair returning for the next game. “We have to see how Felix and Leo manage the workload, but I’m not counting on them for the time being.”
With a game against Heidenheim around the corner on Friday (kick off 18:30 CEST), the team don’t have to wait too long to put things right after Dresden. “In situations like this, I always think it’s a good thing that you soon get the chance to go out and do things better,” said Markus Anfang. “Heidenheim are a top second-division side with a lot of experience in their ranks. We have to take this chance to continue developing.”
Coming off the back of two defeats, Werder face a tricky task against third-placed Heidenheim, but Anfang’s side shouldn’t be short of confidence. “The last two games are a good indication of what we need to do better. They shouldn’t unnerve us, but rather give us more stability. We can take a lot from the defeats and sharpen our senses. That will make us more receptive and allow us to focus better on the upcoming task.
