Back in Bremen since last Saturday and hopefully back on the pitch this Saturday – Marco Friedl has recovered well from his Coronavirus infection. “I’m feeling as well as I ever have. I did the first light training session last weekend and finally got back to full sessions yesterday,” said the 23-year-old Austrian.

Friedl got the first training session under interim head coach Christian Brand under his belt well, despite his time out: “When you’re out, even for a short time, your body still needs to get back used to this type of workload.” His first impressions of Brand have been positive – “He tries to put us all in a good mood and prepare us as well as possible for the game against Kiel. It’s all about the football with him; all about what happens on the pitch.”

Marco did not find a disjointed team when he arrived back in Bremen – quite the opposite in fact: “We’ve communicated a lot, come closer together and exchange ideas in training a lot more. There’s a great amount of togetherness in the squad!”

Friedl hasn’t yet been ruled out of an appearance this Saturday evening in Kiel, either: “Myself and the coach will see how well I’m doing and how fit I am.” The desire to get back on the pitch is very much still there for Friedl, though – “It hurt a lot to be sat up in the stands on the weekend, especially when I saw what was going on in the stadium.”

Our upcoming opponent of Holstein Kiel will see a former Werderaner and teammate of Friedl’s face the side in Finn Bartels. “When I think of Finn, I think of so many funny moments. I always had so much fun with him. He was there for me at the beginning, when I was new and didn’t yet know many people here.”
